Good - Bad Report of the Commonwealth Cup Weekend

Good

From BCO pix

  • Beating uva, going to the ACCCG & making the hoos stay home. Shit, I need a GREAT category.
  • Tyrod finding his confidence
  • Bud Foster's work, pay the man his jack.
  • Macho Harris on the corner blitz every other play. the Hoos never adjusted. haha.
  • Bumping into the guy who lived next door to me my freshman year in Barringer
  • Smoked Turkey Legs
  • Whiskey and Coke
  • Vic Hall, even for a hoo, gotta give him some credit
  • Cheap Booze in Blacksburg
  • Lil Blonde Hoo hottie who sat 2 rows back ... so hot Jeter would tame her
  • This crappy home schedule season is over, bring me 2009 dates
  • Spending time with good friends, even if the time was brief

Bad
From BCO pix

  • The 42 year old man who died in the restroom, leaving a wife and 2 kids. Say a prayer.
  • The offense inside the freakin' redzone
  • The reverse tailgate weather and not getting to hang out with about 4 people I wanted to
  • The Knight's Inn
  • drinking my first soda in 3 months ... only did it for the whiskey
  • Clint Sintim, jaw all you want now, a-hole
  • Face Coach Jags and his better team next week
  • Having to 'talk to man about a dog' while at Walmart
  • Feeling old while downtown

I am sure there is more, but I am tired and need sleep.

Notes
ACC smacking the $EC around this weekend, 3-1 advantage. Hells yeah.
BCO likes OU more than Tejas, but the Horns got jobbed by the BCS.
UF vs OU would make a great matchup, our luck it will Bamer vs USC.

CFB Week 14 Television Viewing Guide

From BCO pix

The end is near, the last full week of games, only a handful next week. Found a great new blogspot site ... Poon of the SEC ... wonderful. True rivals, all of them. Not seeing a site like this for the Big East, let me assure you.
From BCO pix

Rivalry week, no Auburn - Bamer, just like there was no Missagain - the Ohio St ... gotta be games worth a shit, though the BCO kicks himself for not putting UDub vs Washington State on the viewer's guide last week. That and Cuse-ND were cripple fights. Speaking of Cripple Fights ...

VT - uva
From BCO pix
This is the only game I will make in person this year and I sure don't want to go home a sad, hungover loser, I'd much prefer a happy, hungover loser. Let's not kid ourselves, those 2 offenses suck complete ass. The D's will rule the day. Field position, stupid penalties and turnovers will decide the winner unless Peerman, Evans or God forbid one of the qb's gets hot. A VT win sends them to Tampa to play in the ACCCG that they probably don't deserve. A uva win sends them to some shitty bowl where maybe 6 of their fans will go to and even less will watch on tv. This game does have meaning. Southernpigskin hasn't dropped my column yet but when it comes, I will update the link. Here are a couple of jpgs, I stole. The one above shows Hoo fans in their finest, the one below offensive football at VT.
From BCO pix

GiT - ugga
From BCO pix
I love watching the option and when the jackets don't turn it over they are really tough to stop. Wait til Johnson gets his players and they learn the system. They rowed the canes ass right outta Hotlanta last week. The dawgs are overrated but are they good enough to fend off the city folk?

UF - f$u
From BCO pix
Meyer will run it up on anyone at anytime. Late field goal vs Miami. 2 times outs in the final minute vs ugga in a demolishing and random ass kickings put on other teams from the souf. Gotta lot of the ole ball coach in him ... I like it. The noles are going to get buried.
From BCO pix

OU - Okie St
From BCO pix
Bedlam: a state of extreme confusion and disorder. That's the name of this rivalry. Okie St can do just that to the BCS universe with a win and they have more than enough horses to do so. The BCO will be shit faced in the burg trying to watch this game. Do not expect it to be Tejas Tech like whooping.

Previous picks and Season to date;
Last week Straight up: 7-1 -------------- Season: 65-39
Last week Against the Spread: 5-3 ----- Season: 64-40

Great straight up picks, but no money in that ... solid on the lines.

This week's Sched and Picks

Day/Date Time Channel Visitor Home

Fri 11/28 noon ABC w Fn vu (-1.5) P.I.T.T.

The Backyard Brawl … or 2 teams the BCO hates with a passion. Coach Stew vs Wanny, the battle of Suckiness. When in doubt take the team who has the best players … neers though I loved how that dint work out for me last year.

5:00 ESPN2 Fresno St (+20) Boise St

Thanks to the BCS keeping the lil man down, Boise St and Ball St won't be playing in a big $ game. Don't let that keep you from watching this game. While this isn't a vintage Fresno St team, you know the handlebar mustached Hill would love to give BSU that one L.

Sat 11/29 noon ESPN uva (+10) VT

The Commonwealth Cup … or better still The Cripple-Fight Cup. Two shitbag offenses face off, the BCO expects another Hokie victory but far from certain of it. A nice ass kicking and sending the hoos home bowl-less would make me feel better about the season.

noon CBS GiT (+11) ugga

Clean, Old Fashioned Hate … undisciplined teams get their lunches eaten vs the Paul Johnson option attack. BCO feels a milkbone coming the Yellow Jackets way, you know those guys want a win, it's been awhile.

3:30 ESPN2 UF (-14) f$u

My favorite non VT rivalry … down during the zooker/jeff bowden eras but looks like next year it will be on again, unless dadgumit can work magic and the pocketbooks of some refs.

3:30 ABC Maryland b.c. (-8)

b.c. wins, they are in the ACCCG again, they lose f$u takes the short trip to Tampa. The iggles now playing their 2nd string qb for the remainder of the season, unfortunately for f$u maryland has no heart and no D.

7:00 Vs Oregon Oregon St (-3.5)

The Ducks want to play Eddie Haskell to the Beav's fortunes in the Civil War. toOSU win puts them in the Rose in a rematch with State Penn and television nightmare. The new toOSU has some injuries and this is a bitter rivalry but if only to make Dirt happy … the Beaver finds a way to win and not get stuck by a Duck.

8:00 ABC OU (-8.5) Okie St

Wanna no BCS controversy? Pull for dem cowboys in the Bedlam Rivalry. If you want chaos like the Joker, let OU put the hammer down on Okie State. Tejas would be none to happy sitting the B12CG out as well a chance to play for it all, but at least they got Muschamp locked up. I'm a man, I'm 40, needs to cowboy his team up.

Turkey Week

Again another busy week and the blog will suffer. No crying though .... none ...

From BCO pix

Tomorrow nite southernpigskin column
Tuesday nite the viewer's guide
Wednesday nite friends over, hope the brews from Ga are good
Thursday turkey day
Friday with the family, but not out shopping
Saturday in the burg for an offensive showdown

As I said last week, I won't blog on the O til the bitter end of the season. Want to read good stuff, look to the right and see all the VT blog updates about the doook game. Seriously ... good reads. I am extremely disgusted needless to say and afraid Frank is losing touch, but we will know soon enough. Hokie Guru I will give you a post on FBS in the next couple of weeks.

If doook had had Thad Lewis at qb, healthy I think they beat the Hokies this past Saturday. If VT wins the game vs uva and goes to the ACCCG, they won't deserve it, well not half the team. Purnell and the D, they deserve to be the kings of Blacksburg.
From BCO pix

Oh, not too worried about basketball yet, beat wisky and things look better. Lose to them, it's the N.I.T. again. Seth's teams get better as the year goes on, more often than not, but these are games NCAA teams have to win at a 67% clip.
From BCO pix

Anyone not impressed by the whooping the Sooners gave the Red Raiders? Thought not. Next week's game vs Okie State better be impressive if they want to jump Tejas in the BCS standings to face Mizzou.

Not many are looking down on OU as it is but for the other 115 college football programs, here is your chance. Enjoy.
From BCO pix

BCO Top 8 with 2 weeks to go, regardless of record:
  1. UF
  2. OU
  3. Tejas
  4. Bamer
  5. USC
  6. Okie State
  7. Tejas Tech
  8. State Penn
Now that Texas Tech is out of the running, the BCO wants to see UF vs OU.

Tidying Up, BCO Style

From BCO pix
BCO dint do much tonite, watched the Ball State - Central Michigan game off and on. Ball State is impressive, better than half the Big East, Big1+10 and Pac10. CMU might have lost, but Miss Shay-Lyn above is a still a Chippewa Winner!

From BCO pix
Added some links on the side to blogs and sites I hit when I can. Will the Thrill requested this 2 months ago, so I decided to accommodate him in the same amount of time I get an email response from him. Will ... stop looking up for a moment and look to your right. Ok, you can now look up again, but get a kleenex. A lil tidying up of the site, is always nice, don't you think? More links to come later.

Advice, turn on safe search when using google images search and the words "hot maid."

CFB Week 13 Television Viewing Guide

Only 3 weeks left ... :(

Impress the BCO Time

From BCO pix
vs
From BCO pix
Alright Ball state can impress the BCO come Wed nite, not saying they are Boise State or Utah good, but watching them, I should be able to tell how good they are.

Games of Supreme BCO interest

Da U - GiT
From BCO pix
2 weeks left in the regular season and all but doook have a shot in the ACC coastal. Miami wins, it's theirs. GiT wins and they are in a tie with Miami and maybe VT or UNC or UVA. This will be a heavily watched game. Paul Johnson is going to have to outcoach the Miami superior speed. Eff the analysis, it will be close, it will be good and it means a lot. Tune in.

Doook VT
From BCO pix
A young team that doesn't play that well on the road, save Nebraska is now home ... For at least 2 more games. That alone should be a win. Doook is better than they have been since the ole ball coach walked the sidelines, so they aren't chopped liver and tech's shitty O keeps EVERY team they play in the games. A nite game helps, sauced fans equals juiced players.

Tejas Tech - OU
From BCO pix
Gonna be a cold nite Saturday, stay home and get your drinks on. I want 80 pts, I want each team to have to match one another TD for TD. Will the shitty kicking game of Tejas Tech finally cost them a game. Will Big Game Bob Stoops moniker finally be put to rest for a long, long time?

From BCO pix

No interest in missagain and THEE other state university. DickRod needs to turn it around next year, 2 years bowl-less and he might not make year 3. Already calling out the fans. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3710474

Interesting. Bad move on his part and w Fn vu's? TBD.

From BCO pix

ESPN to host the BCS games. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3710477
Sweet, no more sorry ass NFL guys coming on and talking like they know college. It's where it should be in a couple years. +1 in a couple of years ... Jerry Jones' new stadium makes another BCS bowl game possible.

BCO with another HOT week of picks!

This week's Sched and Picks

Day/Date Time Channel Visitor Home

Wed 11/19 7:00 ESPN2 Ball State Central Mich (+5)

The Scrappin' David Lettermans of Ball State vs the Fightin' George "the Animal" Steele's of Central Michigan. Another all eyes on us statement game for Ball State. This week the competition will be tough, it's at Central Michigan and the Chippewas qb Dan LeFevour is a flat out stud. Upset city on Wed nite is in Mount Pleasant, Michigan

Thu 11/20 7:30 ESPN da U GiT (-4)

The linchpin to the Hokies chances at going to Mons Venus and the ACCCG. The yellow jackets win, VT controls it's own destiny ... Again. Da U has some impressive freshman, no doubt but the multi-option attack is a different animal. The Canes will need to play disciplined on the road. Sure GiT isn't playing great but a week off ... they are due .... the BCO not so objectively hopes!

Sat 11/22 3:30 ABC bc (+1.5) Wake Forest

I hate the guy but Coach Jags is a helluva coach. Bc wins out they are back in the ACCCG. Ballhawking, run stopping D and well coached O. Did I mention I hate him? I'd give my left nut to have Steve Logan as Tech's OC. Wake is solid but they aren't quite as good as the BCO thought they would be. O is a weak link.

3:30 ESPN-gp State Penn Mich St (+14.5)

State Penn can return to the Rose Bowl with a win over the Spartans. JoePaPa's last BCS game? Javon Ringer will be good, but not enough as to stop the Nittany Lions. But if one coach can shit the bed, it's the old guy who might not be able to control his bowels on or off the field.

5:30 ESPNU doook (+17) VT

GiT wins vs the Canes, VT hammers doook who will be w/o star qb Thad Lewis, their best player. Miami wins and VT wins but much closer. Stinespring has 2 more games and then the bloodletting really begins. The O does well and he saves his job. Shit, I don't want a Hokie loss but I don't want this same craptacular O in '09.

7:15 ESPN2 P.I.T.T. Cincy (-5)

Brian Kelly has proven to a good coach, which means, he isn't long for the Big East. He won't pull a Schiano or Levitt, he's gonzo for the money, this season before they gig is up {cough} Schiano {cough}. Another hit to the Big East after DickRod and Petrino. P.I.T.T. has talent but the BCO only has less respect for the Zooker than he does Wanny.

7:45 ESPN f$u (+1.5) Maryland

Going George Constanza picking the opposite of the obvious. What favors MD: 6-0 @ home, almost always plays f$u well, controls their destiny in the Atlantic Divison. Favors f$u: noles aren't ranked, ACC is unpredictable. 3-2 says the Terps should win ... Pick is f$u.

8:00 ABC Tejas Tech (+6) OU

Thee Hot SHIT game of the week, Spread vs Spread, Heisman QB squared. Red Raiders have the better D, better passing game but the game is in Norman, OU had a bye to prepare and has to be hating how they haven't won a big game in years. TT, the BCS Cinderalla story with the goofy genius coach vs OU, the traditional power with the son of a legendary Ohio H.S. coach. Great drama, Brett Mashburger should be on top form. Close game, could go either way.

Not Today

From BCO pix

The VT vs Mount Saint Mary's game and working on the Viewing Schedule means no posts today.

VT got outplayed and hustled for 34 mins of that game, but turned it on late. Zo Hudson needs to get in the groove, he was the 2nd best player in Delaney, Allen, Thorns, Bell, Thompson class and so far he's been the worst player. Hmmmmm.

Anyway the season is young and JT being out hurts.

Maybe tomorrow nite, but I gotta do SP column too and there will be 14 wiminz in my house doing wiminz type things tomorrow nite. UGGGGGGH.

Hokies Still ALIVE!

Thank you Maryland. I think I just might Kiss Your Ass! Dirty Terp wiminz.

From BCO pix

From BCO pix
After Miami's D went gorilla on Virginia Tech in the second half, the Hokies looked Dead to Rights to come out of the ACC's Coastal division as champs. It's not over yet. Here's how the Hokies can still win it.
  1. GiT beats Da U Thursday nite in Hotlanta
  2. Beat doook and uva the next 2 weeks in Blacksburg
VT does not control their own destiny so the Hokies must rely on the GiT to do what the Hokies couldn't ... take out the Canes. In the ACC '08 season the 3 games above are 3 fitty/fitty coin flips. Let's look at each.

From BCO pix
Miami is playing well, very good on D and solid on O. The other Tech isn't playing as well now as they were a few weeks ago. The jackets D has been getting semi-tuned up recently and the O while amassing good yards has a turnover problem. They cough it up quite a bit. What the Jackets have in their favor is an off week to regroup and refocus and the game is in Atlanta. Since the league is so close (difference between the best team and the worst is very, very small) home field advantage means a lot. 5 game Miami win streak as the very talent Cane youngsters meet a prideful, we aren't done Yellow Jackets team. I expect the Cane O to be limited but decent, barring any crazy returns or defensive touchdowns the question is can the Canes play assignment football? BCO had a feeling f$u couldn't a few weeks back and I got that feeling with Miami as well. I give GiT a slight edge on Thursday nite and alot more if they had a good home field advantage ... too many toolboxes reading their school books in the stands.

From BCO pix
Now you'd think that Hokies would beat down on some Blue Devils this weekend coming up. A semi-lethargic road effort in Miami should have the coaches on their asses to play harder 5:30 on Saturday. The fans should be pretty rowdy (read, been drinking since 10am and properly sauced by kickoff) and the team should feed off the crowd. Doook just got pasted on the road vs Klempson and now have to travel to Lane. That's the 2 best home crowds in the ACC in back to back weekends ... thanks ACC schedule. To be sure Cutcliffe's Devils are much better than anything seen in Durham since the ole ball coach left for Florida 18 yrs ago, but if VT can't win this game then they deserve the crappiest of all ACC bowls. (btw, this is the typical cheer squad of the blue devils, fugly.)

From BCO pix
So let's say the first 2 happen and VT has the chance to play in the ACCCG in Tampa and more importantly ... allow Hokie fans to support aspiring college students and coked out milfs at Mons Venus. UVA which hasn't beaten the Hokies since George W. Bush's approval rating was about fitty percent will be up for this game. A bye week lets the chessmaster gameplanning the Stinesprung'd Offense and the team to rest before heading into Lane. Game time of this game will make a difference, if at nite in rockin' Lane will be great for the Hokies, though likely it will be a nooner on Raycom. BCO won't even be liquidated by then ... sigh. Anyway, gotta give Al Groan credit, he saved his job to Hokie fans delight by running off 4 wins in a row after a dreadful starting including a pasting by doook. The BCO didn't think they would win 3 after that game, good for the hoos and groan. BCO is jealous of a qb who can routinely throw 200+ yards a game, that's pretty novel inBlacksburg and Verica was their 3rd string qb in August! The hoos O is balanced, Peerman is a very good back and the passing game is pretty good. Bud will have gameplan a lot better than groan will to stop each other's offenses. There is one thi ng that Beamer does very well ... he gets his boys to play up, really up for the Hoos. Hell, even Stiney usually has a good offensive showing vs the 3-4. However, one would think the Hoos are do for a win, they do seem to get em ever 5 years or so .... ruh, roh. No self respecting Hokie thinks the Hoos will win, not after the recent history of the 2 schools in competition, so you know who the BCO will pick to win.

BCO thinks if the first 2 steps happen, that VT will dispatch of UVA to walk into Tampa .... dolla bills in hand. However if Miami wins vs GiT, UVA's odds of winning in Lane goes up slightly.
From BCO pix
BCO reader and friend lil dick can give you the do's and don'ts of said establishment above and how best to clean up.

BCO refuses to talk much about our Shitty O til the end of the regular season, other than comment Stiney has got to go. Too damn disgusted. Bud effing Foster lost 7 guys off his D, most to the NFL and not only has he been excuse free, he's made them a top 25 D in most categories. Stinesprung is an EXCUSE making machine, him and his offensive staff aren't doing the job.

To paraphrase Mike Singletary .... Frank needs to say ...
"Cannot develop with them. Cannot win the big one with them. Cannot coach with them. Can't do it. I want winners."
Sorry ... BCO was dreaming, from what I gather Frank has dug his heels in and Stiney is going nowhere. This isn't 1992 when he was told it's either them or them and you that's gosta go. He's the alpha dog in the Athletic Department now.

CFB Week 12 Television Viewing Guide

Southern Pigskin

From BCO pix

A lil thank you 'Open Letter' column to Sean Glennon. Love him or hate him as a qb, the kid has gotten too raw a deal by a few. I hope he got a lot of enjoyment in college like I did.

Sh!tty Viewing Week
From BCO pix

... Once you get past Thursday Nite Lights

A Hokie win on Thursday and VT looks to be in solid shape to return to the ACCCG with only home games vs doook and uva left. Nothing is a given for sure but home games gotta make one feel as good as they can. Miami is real young, freshman and sophomores dot the qb, rb, wr, dl and linebackers. They are going to be really good in 2 years, as is UNC, VT, f$u, GiT and maybe Clemson if they get a good coach. I think that Bud Foster and the now maturing D will give Miami a lot to chew on and keep the points scored on them to a reasonable level. The question is, can the offense hold up it's end? Glennon, as long as he is protected give the Hokies the best chance of moving the ball down the field. Tyrod is in a mental funk and injured to boot. The OL won't be blowing holes in the Miami DL and Evans isn't going to truck anyone like he did last week but a 100 yard game with a TD or 2 would give the Hokies a good chance of winning. Pretty interested to see the 'Wild Turkey' formation some more and if they added a new wrinkle or 2 to it. I hope special teams breakdowns don't doom the Hokies, they are really bad in that department this year.

No reason to stay at home to catch any game on Saturday, unless they are your team. Next week is a little better if only for Tejas Tech at Oklahoma. BCO gonna have a lil get together for that, some beer, cornhole and food. Gonna be a good nite.

Previous picks and Season to date;
Last week Straight up: 4-4 -------------- Season: 51-37
Last week Against the Spread: 3-5 ----- Season: 53-35

Ughhh, that was a crappy week!

This week's Sched and Picks

Day/Date Time Channel Visitor Home

Thu 11/13 7:30 ESPN VT (+4) Da U

2 very young teams, with the canes playing more youngens. VT's D is getting better and better. I suspect they'll confuse the freshman qb's of da U. Luckily for the Hokies, the homefield advantage of da U is non-existent or I would pick them. The canes have only lost 1 Thurs nite game. VT 3. close ACC game, VT's O looking better w/a qb who is not afraid to pass (as long as he gets protection.)

Fri11/14 8:00 ESPN2 Cincy (-3) lewis-vile

A pretty sh!tty conference with a pretty sh!tty game but the BCO is hurting finding 8 good games. Cincy is the league's most consistent team, so I guess I will pick the bearcats, I might watch 5 mins of this thing.

Sat 11/15 12:30 FSN Tejas (-13.5) Kans-ass

Tejas Tech hammered the Jayhawks, so expect the Horns to do the same. A typical highscoring B12 game, take the over for you guys who like to bet. Horns need BCS style points, could be an ass whoopin' or a BCS buster game?

3:30 CBSC bYu (-3.5) Air Force

the fightin' mormons have not let their 1 loss drag them down to hard, they still lay a lot of points on the board. The falcons D can't slow 'em to much, they will put a few points, but not enough. Worth a look if the other 3:30 games bore.

3:30 ESPN-GP Cal Oregon St (-3)

The Beavers control their own destiny. Win out and they not the Trojans play in the Rose Bowl, against a State Penn team that beat their ass early in the season? Cal just effed up by USC, can they help out their rivals by beating the Beavers down? BCO hopes not.

3:30 ABC UNC Maryland (+2.5)

Conventional wisdom says UNC. Playing the best ball in the ACC, better balance, much better D. Throw it out, it's the ACC in 08. Going Beano and taking the Home team and going Hokie, hoping someone takes UNC down a spot in case VT loses.

3:30 CBS souf carolina (+22) UF

The ole ball coach has all of the sudden become a traditional $EC game, you know win by defense and ball control. The BCO misses the 'fun n gun', cause the 'cock n fire' looks like a 63 yr old man standing their with his dick in his hand. Though with Garcia at qb the Gamecock O looks a lot better. UF needs to hammer the cocks for BCS style points. The visor likes to stick it UGA, Tenn and now UF. Not too close but not a blow out either .

8:00 ABC b.c. (+7) f$u

Sound fundamental defensive team, you can't run on .. Equals low scoring game. The noles who aren't fundamental but should force some turnovers from Cane, the bc qb will keep it close. Tough game to call, but rumors abound that a bunch of Nole players and some Sigma fraternity got in a fracas. Of course this LINK puts ZERO blame on the players. 4 people (no players) hurt, including 2 wiminz. Stay classy. Come to think of it, maybe f$u, like state penn is back, 'just thug it up!'

Wisconsin College Offering Beer-Making Course
From BCO pix

Jon Roll, an instructor at the University of Wisconsin, wants to make one thing clear about a new course creating buzz on the Madison campus. "This is not a course to help kids go out and slam beers on Friday night," he said.

Since the school announced it would launch a class this spring on beer brewing - one of the nation's first major colleges to do so - undergraduates have been scrambling to sign up, graduate students have been quick to offer their assistance, and medical students have been wondering whether they too can participate.

But Roll, who will teach the course, insists that has nothing to do with the school's reputation for beer guzzling, made evident by its No. 1 party school ranking in recent years by Playboy and Princeton Review, or by Wisconsin's binge drinking rate - the highest in the country.

No, he says, interest in the course springs from the region's long history of making beer. The course, in the university's bacteriology department, will focus on fermentation rather than consumption.

MillerCoors donated $100,000 in equipment that can make 10 gallons - roughly two cases - of beer at a time.

So what's going to happen with the final product?

"The students will sample it and critique it," Roll said. "But beyond that we'll probably dump any excess. We have absolutely no plans to distribute or sell it."

The BCO agrees with Will, however 10 gallons of homebrew equals 4 cases of beers.

Other Random Thoughts

Week 11 Thoughts

A lil light on the review this week. As some know, my mom had a hysterectomy on Thursday last week and they found an encapsulated cancer mass. Luckily, it looks like that may be the only cancer and it was her cervix not her ovaries, which is much better. A tough few weeks of recovery before chemo and radiation starts, but I am hopeful the Dr. got it in time. The over/under on when my mother can walk around better than my dad (1 bad knee, 1 replaced knee, a bad back) is 4 weeks. BCO is taking the under.

Anyway visiting her and planning/running a 3 yr old's princess tea birthday party took away most of my Saturday. I did get to see the very last mins of the bamer/LSU game and about 4 of the 7 straight scoring drives of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, between chasing my 3 yr old around, games of cornhole and drinking beer. Was a good nite, I slept a lot on Sunday.

Another One Bites the Dust

From BCO pix

I did not find out that State Penn lost until about 30 mins after the fact. A holy shit type moment. Ding Dong the Big1+10 conference is BCS game dead! Not hating on PSU but the Championship DESERVES to be the winner of the $ec vs the winner of the Big12. If we are lucky, the Florida Gators will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders and tilt the scoreboard in Miami. UF vs TT, UT or OU would be great, bamer while more fundamentally sound and maybe even better is just not as fun to watch. (sorry kiker.)

'Awful QBing' for $1000 Alex
From BCO pix

LSU needs a qb worse than VT, that must be hard to swallow since they pay their players. bamer got a couple of gift wraps. I think Sean Glennon at qb for the bayou bengals gets them a win.

Will Trade Leach for Stiney & 4 pallets of Hokies Stones
From BCO pix

Texas Tech's passing game is amazing. The level of execution is on par with any passing game I have ever seen in college. It's not just Crabtree, they have a legit 4 NFL wideouts on the roster, 2 good running backs and OL that doesn't let Harrell get dirty. Use to be the other teams played a more traditional style of offense and you could beat up on the Red Raider defense. Now since every other school in the B12 worth a shit runs the spread they aren't getting beat up front nearly as bad. After facing Leach's spread all week in practice they get a breather when Kansas, OSU, UT, etc show up with their inferior version. A bye then a HUGE game in Norman on the 22nd. OU wins and a 3 way tie for first and it's decided by the BCS rankings. i.e. who is voted highest by the humans. Wouldn't that be some shit.

Hokies
From BCO pix

Darren Evans was a beast, as was Greg Boone with the 'Wild Turkey' formation. Stiney actually called a very good game or was it because the OL actually played an opponent worse than them? Either way this is sure to convince Frank that the team is making strides and all is fine on the offensive front. I do not want to beat this dead horse any more, right now but you know he's gotta be smug about it. Hearing that Boone has been a bit gimpy since the ECU game is now close to a 100%. That explains a few things, as he was wearing it out in practice since spring.

Hits of the game
  1. Hokie linebacker Brett Warren absolutely leveling wideout Darius Heyward-Bey. The BCO is shocked the kid got up and kept playing, he's tough.
  2. RB Darren Evans absolutely railroading Maryland safety Terrell Skinner to pretty much end the Terps nite was awesome. Skinner got the tackle ... well it seems Evans cleat got stuck in his grille and he tripped. Chris Fowler bout craps his pants, click the link or run the video below.
  3. Greg Boone stood up Terps Middle Linebacker Alex Wujciak before moving him back 3 yards and tackling him.

Cody Grimm did not make the top 3, but that lil guy lights dudes up weekly. At 5' nothing, he must be angry all the time. You know the Fridge must hate losing to Beamer but even worse they get their asses handed to them physically every time they play. Only in 2005 when big Jared Gaither decleated Adibi can I remember a big hit laid by a Terp. You know those 3 cats were getting oohed and ahhhed when they watched film the next day.

CFB week 11 Television Viewing Guide

3 games of supreme interest for the BCO this week.

MD at VT

From BCO pix
Winner is in the driver's seat for their division in the ACC. A loss hurts VT a lot more. MD is by far the better Offensive team and VT is better on Defense, though not by as much. MD has beaten the last 5 ranked teams they have played. Good thing the Hokies aren't ranked? Homefield is gonna count for a lot. It's been over a a month since the Hokies were home, so the crowd will be "sauced" and ready. All the boozers will be out in force. Cory Holt playing the whole game scares me a bit, Glennon will be available, we'll see a lot of Darren Evans. Maryland imploded last time they played in the burg to a the tune of 55-6. It won't be anything like that, this time. The BCO will take a 7-6 win. haha. I expect a good game, though nothing would surprise me.

bamer at LSU
From BCO pix
If Les Miles wants to keep the Louisiana borders closed to Nick Satan and the no. 1 ranked Tide team, he better win on Saturday. Luckily for bamer, the game is in the afternoon not nite, which is almost impossible to get a road win. Satan is a great coach, it is crazy how fast he turned that team around. LSU's great D now sorta ... sucks. The O has qb issues, team looks good not very good nor great, Nick would love to have a return win. LSU has 1 great win in them, the BCS needs more confusion ... Tigers rise up? The LSU Golden Girls, make the BCO RISE UP!!

Okie ST at Tejas Tech
From BCO pix
The most fun game of the week to watch. Both have great O's and ok to solid D's that make plays from time to time. 60+ pts to be scored, like every other B12 game (unless it is Nebraska then their opponent gets that themselves.) Crazy Mike "I'm a man, I'm 40" Gundy vs Mike "The Mad Pirate Genius" Leach, the 2 most entertaining coaches in the B12. A lil chili gathering with a firepit, cornhole, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale keg and this game sounds like a great Saturday nite. Someone make sure my wimins fall asleep from 8-11:30pm. Did I mention the BCS needs confusion? OSU to help provide that?

Eerything else is just filler, though GiT at UNC could be a good 'un too.

My southernpigskin column this week about the Thursday Night Lights game O the week.. Thanks G for learning me up about Mr. Barnes the day after I post the column. This won't hurt the Terps this game but every other game after it will. I could cover the Hokie wideouts. :(

Previous picks and Season to date;
Last week Straight up: 5-3 -------------- Season: 47-33
Last week Against the Spread: 5-3 ----- Season: 50-30

Not bad, a money making weekend last week.

This week's Picks

Day/Date Time Channel Visitor Home

Thu 11/6 7:30 ESPN Maryland VT (-3)

Terps are the far, far superior offensive team backed by a solid defense. VT's O, well it stinks, fronted by a solid defense that gives up too many big plays. A recipe for a Hokie disaster, save one thing … it's in Blacksburg. Only BC has figured out that winning trick on Thurs nites. The crowd will carry the Hokie team to a win. BCO golden rule # 1, all things being equal take the home team with sauced fans acting stupid.

8:00 CBSC TCU Utah (+2)

BCS buster Utah takes on BCS buster buster TCU. Last time a mid major wanted to continue it's march to the college football promised land of cash & exposure, the Horned Frogs whipped up on the Mormons of BYU. This time the game is an away game … like above, use the BCO golden rule when in doubt.

Sat 11/8 noon Raycom GiT (+4) UNC

Very simple, the winner is still alive to win the ACC Coastal. The loser, well thanks for playing. Who wins? It's the ACC who the hell knows. BCO's wife will be sponsoring a princess party for the 3 year old's bday. BCO will be sponsoring a drinking session upstairs for the sad sack dads.

noon ESPN2 tOSU Nwestern (+11)

Normally, this is a blip on the radar but the Buckeyes aren't the Buckeyes of old & Northwestern with a 7-2 record looks pretty solid. I doubt the nerds win, but you never know, they all do dig the sweatervest, very fashionable.

3:30 CBS bamer LSU (+3)

The drama of the Nick Satan returning to LSU. He built the program, giving them basically 2 championships. The fans hate him, call him turncoat, would they rather go back a decade previous his hire? LSU is good but not great, sitting on a couple of losses and D that has been embarrassed. Will this be their 1 hot shit game of the year, just to bust up the BCS standings? BCO smells upset.

7:00 ESPNU cincy w FN vu (-8)

The Big Least is down to 3 teams, west by God, cincy and P.I.T.T.sburgh. Win and advance. Neers are figuring it out, well actually Coach Stew, the genius that he is decided that going back to last year's offense was a good idea and would help him win. NO SHIT!

8:00 ESPN-GP Cal (+17.5) SoCal

Ok, not really that good a game but Cal does play SoCal tough & the Trojans aren't quite the team we all thought, very good but not great. They needs lots of help to play in Miami for all the BCS marbles. A keep an eye on the game, Cal has talent but not Trojan talent.

8:00 ABC Okie St (+3) Tejas Tech

This is a classic let down game for TT. Huge win last week vs Texas, their first statement win game in the Leach or any era. Last week they had everything but the refs for them, flat Longhorn team, "spirited" fans, jacked team that was the hunter. This week, they are hunted by the best running team in the B12 w/their own great QB/WR combo. Calling it, upset in Lubbock.

Happy Viewing, only a few weeks left.

The Best Halloween costume for 2008 goes to this lil guy ....
