Southern Pigskin Early ACC Coastal Contenders

Wrote this earlier this week ... for Southern Pigskin. link.

The Goal is the Orange Bowl in Miami on January 5th 2010 but that’s putting the cart before the horse. That team needs to win its Division then the Championship game. Right now these three teams reviewed above are the Coastal division favorites. I can only guess on what the final standings will look like, though I do feel all teams will have at least one conference loss and one conference win.

Miami gets the benefit of playing a couple out of conference breathers in Florida A&M and Central Florida. Once they start conference play back up, they will know if it’s a two or three race.

One of Georgia Tech or Virginia Tech is going to take a loss and it’s very possible that either team could take 2 in that span. Before the October 17th 6pm ESPN2 Tech Squared Showdown, Virginia Tech plays an improving Boston College team for the 5th time in 3 years. Georgia Tech on the other hand takes on a Seminole team that is playing to save their season and their iconic coach. Both are can’t miss tv.

It’s hard for me to call Miami the favorites since they have lost to Virginia Tech, but they have to like their positioning right now. Virginia Tech also has to feel pretty good having beat what most consider the best conference team on their schedule. Georgia Tech is a step back but a win in 2 weeks brings them even. Going to be a fun ride!
